Spanish ballet...

Kilian Martin, the man turns skating into
the finest ballet. Please enjoy this three
minute treat. Music by Patrick Watson.

the coolest little bar in Paris.

Les Etages or The Stage for those of us who are
linguistically challenged, is a great little bar
in the Marais district of Paris. Located in an
18th century Parisian hotel with a fantastic
ambiance. You can definitely spend the time partaking
in Paris' favourite pastime, people watching!
But don't forget to climb the stairs and explore
the two levels above. Oh yeah they serve some pretty
mean cocktails too, i would suggest the Gin Fizz...

Nick Drake, bryter layter...classic album review

Recorded in 1970, "Bryter Layter" was the second
album from troubled troubadour Nick Drake. One
of the most beautiful and melancholic albums ever
created, it is such a shame that he was taken
from this world just four short years after
the release of this little gem.
Get up on a lazy Sunday morning and let Mr.
Drake take you on a journey back to the golden
age of music.

Christmas pic(k)s.

I.D.E.A: Bird Alarm Clock.

Ok, so its less than a month until Christmas (horrifying
thought I know) and if you're anything like me and hate
giving lame presents then do yourself a favour and go to
designdelicatessen for some seriously sexy and affordable
gifts. Good luck.

a new voice has arrived!

In the swamp of throw-away pop trash that
crowds our modern music industry it's
refreshing to see that talent still manages
to find a way to be seen by the masses.
Music connoisseur's it's time to clean out
those ear canals. Thankyou Marques for this
spine tingling performance.

aahhhh... tea.

FILIO: designed by Tassilo von Grolman.

SOROPOT: designed by Joey Roth.

TEABALL: designed by Lea Dennison.

Don't kid yourselves we all love tea! Be it milk
on the side, green, a touch of honey or just
straight up black, just think how much cooler
you'd look making a cuppa from one of these magic
pots.

i try hard not to fantasize...

I try hard not to fantasize
whose reality is it that i keep,
when i prepare to lay in bed...
thinking ahead i am there to sleep.
Suddenly finding myself awake,
with memories that seem to creep...
Holding me with wishes,
i wasn't alone but snuggling close...
With someone loved especially there,
just for me to never leave and love most.
Whose reality is this that i keep,
when i feel i try hard not to fantasize.
Or make attempts not to lie to myself.

Happy Birthday Mr. Gilliam.

Thankyou Terry Gilliam for breaking the mold. Your movies have
given us many ponderous moments over the years (being a closet
nerd i have seen Time Bandits at least 15 times!) and still your
vision is a force to be reckoned with. From humble beginnings
with the Monty Python crew to the glory of Fear And Loathing In
Las Vegas we salute you, oh yeah and Happy Birthday from
monkmenagerie.
Here's a little animation "The miracle of flight" to wet your
whistle.

the gospel according to...

Clip taken from the documentary "The gospel
according to Al Green".
Well worth a watch, he definitely marches
to the sound of his own drum. Funny and
insightful if anyone is willing to jump
into the mind of Al Green.

There are so few quality magazines. Why oh why
did Studio Magazines put a halt to Black+White?
Creative and beautiful, and important in the fact
that this magazine exposed struggling Australian
photographers.
Please bring back Black+white!

the sensory sensation that was... Amsterdam.

an opening exhibit hosted by Foam Magazine.

walking.

Ryan Larkin was nominated for an Academy Award
in 1969 for best animated short film with
"Walking". He was plagued with alcoholism and
drug abuse and ended up on the streets of Paris
begging for small change. Anyone interested in
in a good documentary should watch "Ryan" by
Canadian animator Chris Landreth.

this is Rome.

Religious symbols, traffic, broken buildings and cobblestones...

street art in the heart of Rome.

a book about death by Death.

A strangely disturbing novel about the trials
of the German people during World War Two.
Nothing new you might say except the fact
that the tale is narrated by none other than
Death himself.
This novel is a highly recommended read: sad,
joyful, disturbing and interesting until the
last line. Do yourself a favour and curl up to
this modern classic and lose a few nights
sleep.

the Mona, Tasmania's finest.

Feist, metals...album review

The third album from Canada's songstress is probably
her finest to date and hopefully it doesn't end up as
background music for friday night dinner parties or on
Grey's Anatomy. Dark, deeply personal and gutsier than
she has ever been before, Feist is definitely on the
path to greatness. Please don't fade away like so many
before you...
See her next at St. Jerome's Laneway Festival 2012.
